About Richards Respite Home
What is respite?
Respite is designed to provide temporary relief to families from their daily care-giving responsibilities. When an individual has needs that require special attention, the family often has additional stress. Respite allows family members to have precious time alone or to renew relations with friends and other family members. Participants in respite often desire a break, too from the routines of their family life and look forward to the “bed and breakfast” attention they receive while visiting Richards Respite Home.
A Brief History
The Richards Respite Home is named after a local philanthropist and founder of Southwire Company, Roy Richards, Sr.
His family made a generous donation to the Advocates for Remarkable Citizens toward the home’s construction. Thanks to this joint effort, the home opened its doors in 1993. Housing by Advocates for Remarkable Citizens provides respite services at the home for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
